Pear O'Legs Records at The Gresham: Jack Cheshire and Thallo
Our next Gresham show is going to be a beauty with Psych Folk-Rock genius Jack Cheshire and Welsh storytelling Pop from Thallo.
Jack Cheshire is an English musical artist based in London. His latest album ‘Black Light Theatre’ (2017) was described as ‘…a curious, idiosyncratic piece of artful pop. Psychedelic in a very English way, it’s a literate return, one imbued with remarkable depth.’ Clash
Cheshire has shared stages with the likes of Songhoy Blues & Josh T Pearson as well as performing at Green Man Festival and the Kings Place. He writes and records with long term collaborators David Pearson (guitar) Jon Scott (drums) Andrea Di Biase (double bass).
‘Shimmering sonic bliss…a guitar-driven, neo-psychedelic smorgasbord of sound and texture.’ **Folk Radio **
‘Fourth album by the acclaimed & exploratory singer songwriter….lyrically, melodically and sonically compelling…psychedelic…born out of strange & altered inner states.’ ★★★★ ** MOJO **
‘Spooky, pointillist, strings-driven pastoralia: beautiful stuff…’ The Sunday Times
With songs in both Welsh and English, Thallo’s rich, expressive sound is carefully weaved between voice and instruments in intricate arrangements. Her songwriting entwines archaic Welsh folklore with personal, poetic lyrics. Her music tells captivating stories through beautiful melodies, succeeding in creating an entirely unique experience. Her debut EP ‘Nhw’ has been played on BBC Introducing Wales by Adam Walton, as well as BBC Radio Cymru by Huw Stephens, where a live recording of Thallo’s Eisteddfod festival set was recently featured.
“This has reduced me to a wet puddle of hyperbole…absolutely outstanding” - **Adam Walton (BBC Introducing Wales) **
“These guys are amazing. I truly enjoyed their set” -** Huw Stephens (at Eisteddfod Festival)**
