Our second night of contemporary folk music at The Harlequin pub. Hosted by the Sheffield not-for -profit label Pear O'Legs Records.
The All Night Chemist
The All Night Chemist is a Sheffield based dad folk-rock band fronted by singer, songwriter and banjo player Jimmy Grayburn. Their writing is inspired by the storytelling roots of traditional British and American folk music. Just a little too earnest to be truly tongue-in-cheek, theirs songs celebrate and mock the mundane while stirring the soul.
Their music combines 70s folk-rock and 90s absurdist indie, with a sound like Johnny Flynn, Neil Young and Wilco, with a touch of They Might Be Giants. It walks a delicate line between the domestic and the surreal, the tragic and the comic. With anything from cheesy pop bangers about mobile phones, to dark trad folk.
